sorry

i wound people.  i wound people and let it fester.  i wound people and expect them to heal on their own.

i have come to realize that i have been so lost in myself, in my future and in my goals that i haven't spent time rebuilding bridges and bringing healing.

i am sorry.

i have let so many people down this semester, and now there is nothing really to show for it, except some grades...maybe.

why do i weave my identity so tightly with my accomplishments? why do i push people to the margins?

why can't i just be?

time for a cigarette.

.:i am an idiot:.

Haha, so it turns out, upon further investigations that the liscense plates do not say God Bless America, they say In God we Trust...

My bad.

I guess that isn't quite as bad as "God Bless America," but it brings into quesetion a whole set of other issues...

Namely, this country is not a Christian country.  How would you react as a religious minority in this country if you saw this liscense plate.  Perhaps it would be better said, "In God I Trust" (the 'I' being the person driving the car), you can't argue with that.  But, to say "In God We Trust" has a whole host of assumptions of implications that go along with it that could, perhaps, be negative to, say, a Buddhist, Athiest, Hindu, etc.  I guess the way I would think about it is this: what if they made liscense plates that said "In Allah We Trust" or "In Buddha We Trust" (which would be kind of wierd because Buddha is not inherently divine or transcedent, it would be more trusting him to lead you to the path of enlightenment to nirvana, but you get the point).  I know one thing, some Christians would get pissed.  In fact I think it would be kind of humorous, I might try make a bumper sticker that says that just to see reactions.

Anyways, that is my correction.  Sorry for those I led astray...you now know my irritation with two patriotic sayings.

Angry Gardening

Has anyone seen these new license plates in Indiana...

"God Bless America"

Allow me to be a little one sided and angry for a second to express some concern...

Why in the hell would God bless America?  Furthermore, why would God bless America anymore then God should bless Iraq, Britain or Thailand?  How can God bless a place that is full of pride and seems to think that we have our shit together, so completely that we justify killing others in the name of security?

If God were to bless America, would we even recognize it?

OR

Would we be to focused on self advancement and security that we understand the blessing as a curse?

Are you sensing my rage?  And then people wonder why Evangelical Christianity is a running joke on the Today Show.  We don't get it.  Well I'll tell you what, I don't get how we think it is okay to oppress people and ask for God's blessing.  I don't get how we take from the poorest of poor and praise the "American Dream".  I don't get how people are literally dying, but we chastise those who are critical of a system that perpetuates an endless cycle of violence (we call them unpatriotic, but the whole definition of that term and its implications for a religious person warrant another discussion).

Am I missing something here?  I don't know maybe I can't see through my anger and I need to take a long hard look at my belief structure.  Maybe I am too cynical (but if my cynicism saves a life I won't take that label as an insult).

Damn...who would of thought a license plate could incite so much rage?

Also, work starts on the organic garden this weekend.  This little garden is in some ways my peaceful protest against the monopoly on food, and also a chance to reconnect with the Earth that sustains us.  I really can't wait, if anyone wants to jump on board and help out just contact me.  We could start a co-op or something.
